Broadside, "Seize the Time," dot matrix printed image of Black Panther, Bobby Seale, 15" x 22," fine. This incredible artifact was issued by the students who took over the computer center during the Third World Liberation strike at Berkeley in 1969 which was organized and led by Richard Aoki. Aoki, an Asian, was a founding member of the Black Panther Party and at the time, a graduate student at Berkeley. Bobby Seale was in the San Francisco jail having been arrested in Berkeley, August 19, 1969, and charged with initiating 1968 Democratic National Convention riots, and with the murder of Alex Rackely, a New York Panthers accused of disloyalty to the Party. It was during this period as a prisoner in the San Francisco jail, that Seale wrote "Seize the Time, a history of the Black Panthers and their goals. As stated in his new introduction of the reprint of the book, "I tape-recorded and wrote most of this book under the strain of being a political prisoner in the San Francisco County Jail in 1969 and 1970. At that time, most protest organizations, particularly anti-war and civil rights groups, were targeted for attacks by all levels of government. Seize The Time was published while I was incarcerated and a defendant in two major political trials-consecutive, racist, political trials that I eventually won." Accompanying the broadside is a statement from known Black Panther expert, Mike Pincus (appraised the Stamford Black Panther collection) identifying the piece.
