A rare and early war-date manuscript Confederate pass issued by Brig. Gen. Daniel Ruggles, 1p. oblong 12mo., "Head Quarters, Fredericksburg, Va., April 29, 1861" reading, in full: "To E. H. Chandler, Pass the bearer Capt. Thomas Waller from Brooks Station to and from Richmond. This holds good for three days. By order of Brig. Genl. J. Horace Lacy. A. D. C." Accomplished by JAMES HORACE LACY (1823-1906) who also served as volunteer aide de camp to General Gustavus W. Smith on the Peninsula. He was POW June 10, 1862 and appointed lieutenant ADC to General Smith following his release. He also served in the Trans-Mississippi and finished the war as major in the Confederate quartermaster department. Expected wear, else VG.
