A historically important war-date Union newspaper editor's letter, 1 1/4pp. 4to., written by a certain "E. E. Jones" of the Nashville Dispatch, Nashville, June 17, 1863 seeking Union General William Rosecrans' consideration in reviewing his treason charges, in part: "…I believe that malicious misrepresentations made to you have caused you unwittingly to do an uncharitable act. I have been arrested, accused of holding treasonable correspondence with the N. Y. Freeman's Journal over the signature of Charles…the penalty…was first to go south; afterwards at the recommendation of Col. Truesdail, to take the oath of allegiance and to give bonds. To the former…I have given my objections; to the latter my conscious presents an insurmountable barrier. I am not sure that you have had an opportunity to examine…my case, because brief statements have been forwarded to you which I think…would have prompted you, in the goodness of your heart, to say…"Sin no more…you are forgiven." I have just returned from an interview with Gen. Granger. He seems stern and inflexible and yet so just is my cause that I am desirous to submit my case to him…new witnesses can be readily obtained and facts proven, necessary to form a just judgment. I beg, therefore, that you will do me the honor of reading my statement, made under oath, and also my letter to Col. Truesdail which was intended for you, or grant your permission for Gen.
