A rare war-date partly-printed Confederate military exemption document, 1p. oblong 12mo., issued to John W. Anthony at Lynchburg, Va., May 1, 1864, "by reason of [being employed as an] overseer. The document then warns, in printed type: "When he ceases to be employed as such this exemption is hereby declared void." Signed by Captain Edwin J. Anderson 38th Battalion Virginia Heavy Artillery as Confederate enrolling officer for Lynchburg and Amherst, Counties, Virginia, and approved, on the verso, by Lt. Col. Alexander G. Taliaferro, 23rd virginia Infantry (WIA Kernstown, Va., Mar. 23, 1862 & 2nd Manassas, Aug. 28, 1862), as enrolling for Virginia's 7th Congressional District. Printed by the firm of Johnson& Schaffter, Lynchburg. This is the first document of its kind we have encountered in the market place. Near fine.
