Group of (3) letters written by different writers, all to Prisoner of War, Henry Poteet at Rock Island. On 2/1/1863 he mustered into "E" Co. VA 8th Cavalry and is listed POW 9/6/1863 Cabell County, WV, confined 1/4/1864 Rock Island, IL. Each letter has the original postal cover which indicates that has passed the official prison examination and is so stamped. The group includes; January 11, 1864, 1pp., with family and back home news. ..., plus, January 31, 1864, 3pp., in small part, “it has been reported that Alex Samuel, Galib Ricket and Henry Brown have been killed in Tennessee and also Wilson james ... others wounded...” the rest is hometown news. ... plus, February 4th / 62, 2pp., opens with “My Prisoner Friend,’ then continues with hometown news. There are another 6 letters written to Poteet while he was a POW, however they do not have the original covers. The content of these are mostly hometown news.
