BOLIVAR, Simon (1783-1830) Hero of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. He played a prominent role in the wars of independence in South America. In 1819 he was made President of the Republic of Colomia which was liberated three years later. He then led the campaign for the independence of Peru in 1824. Partly-printed Document Signed, “Simon Bolivar” 2p. folio, in Spanish, in part: “...In reference to the merit and services of...Jose G. Salon..first of the third company of the battalion Hunters of the West...I order to the chief...to apply and make him obey the laws, honors, and privileges that he is entitled to; and that he is being authorized in the corresponding treasury offices, so he can receive his salary...” Dampstain, else VG.
