Union soldier letter written by Theodore Cooper and signed “Theod”, who enlisted on 12/24/1861 as a Asst Engineer and 12/24/1861 he was commissioned into US Navy, and served on the USS Chocura in the West Gulf Blockading Squadron from Jan. 13, 1862, to June 28, 1865. The letter is 4pp., Boston Feb 10, 1862 to his brother. In small part, “I have been as busy as could possible be for the last two days. We are running our engines at the warf ... Orders came from Washingbton to have all the boats off on today. ... My sword I got the other day. You ought to see it, It is all covered with anchors, eagles, fishes ... We probably will go into Commission by the end of the week and then we will live on the ships ... but I don’t think we’ll sail till a week at least. ...”
