A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written, on "Union Forever" patriotic stationery, by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., "Camp near Harpers Ferry, Va., Aug. 29, 1862", in part: "…we are right amongst the Rebels…encamped on the same ground which Banks was driven by Stonewall Jackson. Yesterday morning…after we got to Harpers Ferry the word was passed along the line for us to keep cool for the Col…expected to have a little brush with the rebels…last night we saw a flashing over in the valley south of us…the boys who had seen service said was cannon. We received our arms last night…they were Springfield rifles…reached Washington tab midnight. There were three or four ladies at the depot with provisions and I was lucky enough to get some…reached Harpers Ferry at 7 o'clock…there is some of the highest hills and deepest gullies I ever expected to see…George S.
