War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., "on Picket near Centreville, [Va.], Apr. 13, 1863", in part: "…yesterday our regt accompanied by the Key Stone Artillery acting as cavalry went out on the Warrenton pike about four miles expecting to visit the Bull Run battlefield for some purpose…it was said that the Gen. wished to dig up the bodies of some of his friends who were killed there…while we were engaged in constructing a bridge to cross the run two couriers rode up to the Col. with an order…we marched back to camp immediately. We soon learned that we had received marching orders . Not only the regt but the entire brigade…the whole division is to move with seven days rations…we are to join Hooker by way of the Warrenton & Culpeper across the Rappahannock. There is…a small rebel force at Culpeper…we are to take an active part in the spring campaign. A few more such days as…yesterday will enable Hooker to move.
