War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., "Camp near the Rapidan, Va., Sept. 21, 1863," in part: "…our brigade was on picket yesterday…we were closer to the Johnnys than we ever picketed before. Their headquarters are in plain sight form our post as well as several of their picket posts. We hear their band play Sweet Home and Annie Laurie Sunday evening in a style worthy of commendation. This morning we are drawing ration to make eight days with those we have on hand…Mr. George S. Youngs, Company G, 126th Regiment, New York State Volunteer Infantry, Third Brigade, Third Division, Second Army Corps, Army of the Potomac." The original stamped transmittal cover is included. A bit light, else VG.
