War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., Auburn, Va., Oct. 21, 1863, in part: "We left Bristow Station yesterday…we are now within a half mile of where we had the first skirmish on the 14th…we went nearly twice the distance to get here that we passed over in going from here to Bristow station…we ford three good sized streams…I see in the Herald…the 11th and 125th mentioned in the fight at Bristow station but not the 126th. There is something curious about such things…the fact is the 126th Regiment New York State Volunteer INfantry lost more men in killed and wounded on the 14th than all the other Regts in the brigade combined…[it] appears to be that Mr. Lee is to be pushed to that last ditch this time…George S. Youngs." VG.
