War-date Union soldier's Rappahannock Campaign letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., Brandy Station, Va., Nov. 10, 1863, in part: "…we lay at Brandy Station all day yesterday…marched to this place a distance of five or six miles. It is very cold weather…yesterday we had quite a little flurry…I found it frozen over to the depth of 1/4 of an inch. Rather cold campaigning to get up before daylight and get water, build fires, cook breakfast and march…I suppose we shall get used to it…I understand that a number of the boys are home to vote…after this campaign is over furloughs will be granted to some of our boys…[Nov. 14]…I went out on picket and when I came in…the boys with whom I tent were engaged in building a stockade so I went to work with them…part of the Co. drew overcoats last night. I was lucky enough to get one…George S. Youngs…". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Bit light, else VG.
