War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., Camp Douglas, Chicago. Ill., Nov. 13, 1862, in part:"…Gus Aikens read letter to the boys…which stated that the people of Waterloo had held a meeting…and the result was they telegraphed to Washington to furnish the ground and build the barracks if they would allow us to come there and that they had received an answer telling them they might do so…a sufficient number of men had been engaged to complete them in two weeks…write right away…as soon as you get this if they are building barracks…I am convinced that they will keep the regiment here all winter, that is, all that choose to stay and I do not think it will be a great many. There is only one hundred and fifty men left of the 32nd Ohio. The rest have gone home. Whole companies at a time…George S. Youngs." The front panel of its original stamped patriotic transmittal cover is included. VG
