War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., Stevensburg, Va., Apr. 9, 1864, in part: "…we are obliged to keep ourselves and our surroundings…clean, our guns and accouterments polished like a mirror and our quarters swept clean…we rise at 5…we have divided ourselves into two reliefs…we cut our wood from "Old Hancock's" wood pile…we got these position through…Gen. Owen and Hays who recommended our Regt…Geo. S. Youngs, 2nd Corps Headquarters…". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. VG.
