War-date Union soldier's letter, 6pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., Union Mills, Va., Dec. 8, 1862, in part: "…we are now camped on a part of the old Bull Run battlefield…the boys are engaged in tearing down the old log huts which the rebels built and occupied as winter quarters last season. The boys that I tent with…have slept there for the last two nights and although the one we occupied had no roof or door the sides kept off the wind…was large enough to admit of our building a fire in the centre…the reason…[in] tearing down the huts was for…building some for themselves…George S. Youngs." The original "Due 3" transmittal cover endorsed by Chaplain T. Spencer Harrison is included. VG.
