G, 126th New York Vols., "Head Quarters, 2nd Corps near Petersburg, Va., Oct. 17, 1864", in part: "…I came off guard this morning in expectation of a visit from the Secretary of War, but he has not yet made his appearance…I have been seriously interrupted since I began this…to arrest some persons at a horse race near by…[long diatribe here on ignoring a home town acquaintance while in the army]…George S.
