War-date Union soldier's letter, 2 1/2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. George S. Youngs, [POW Harper's Ferry, Va., 9/15/62], Co. G, 126th New York Vols., "Provost Guard Headquarters, Second Corps Before Petersburg, Va., Jan. 18, 1865", in part: "…we received news here yesterday that Fort Fisher is taken with one thousand prisoners…the pickets of our brigade have instructions to tell the Rebel Pickets of it today. An attack on the wing of our army is looked for ere long and the works are being extended and strengthened in preparation…[closing compliments in an artistic fashion] George S. Youngs, Provost Guard, Headquarters 2nd Corps." The original transmittal cover is included. VG
