Good Union soldier’s letter written by William A. Smith and signed Wm.A.S. who enlisted on 8/21/1862 as a Private and mustered into "D" Co. PA 116th Infantry. The 4pp. letter is datelined mountain Creek, Headquarters 1st Division, 2nd Corp Nov 22/63. In part, “We are at Mountain Creek between Culpepper and Stevensville ... My partners name is John Green....We have a heavy business going now. We make bone rings for boys and other things to pass away the time at 50 cts a piece. ...Well, there is to be another man to be shot for desertion next Friday. He is out of the 61st NYV. ...” Comes with the original cover.
