Unusual Union soldier’s letter written by Marion Hopkins and unsigned. Marion enlisted on 9/9/1861 as a Private into "B" Co. OH 32nd Infantry. Writing his mother, original cover is present, 2pp., “Army near Atalanta, July the 25, (64) ... I got thru the fight all right but we lost several of our best men in our company we lost 22 in number. “ He then list four whom his mother would know. He continues “I was struck on the arm with a ball bruised some but I can use it now. I had a knapsack tore up while on my back you can see where it tore of corner of this paper ...” The letter is missing the upper left corner.
