POW soldier’s letter written by James C. Justus who was commission as 2nd LT. into K company PA 31st Infantry, captured 5/24/1864 and confined at Macon and Columbia. The 2pp. letter is datelined CSM Prison, Columbia SC, Dec. 2, 1864, in part, “Six months have elapsed and not a word from home. it seems that since my capture no one cares for me ...tell him I wish he would write and to direct his letters to Columbia by way of Flag of Truce. ...” The original cover is enclosed, and, is marked “Flag of Truce,” and has CDS Old Point Comfort, VA, Dec 16, with ^Due wet stamp.
