An elaborate war-date U. S. Sanitary Commission lithograph memorial print, 14" x 19 1/2", especially printed for the Brooklyn and Long Island U. S. Sanitary Fair held on Feb. 22, 1864. This lithograph was printed by Endicott & Co., 59 Beekman, New York and were meant to be given to individual contributors at the fair. Striking allegorical imagery include Columbia ready to strike down an angry serpent with a heavy sword. The motto: "In Right Is Might" appears at the top of the print while at the bottom concerned female nurses give aid a wounded soldier laying on the ground next to boxes labeled Gettysburg, Pa. A patriotic American shield identifies the recipient and reads, in full: "This Certifies that Mrs. R. H. Lamberts has contributed to the BROOKLYN and LONG ISLAND FAIR in aid to the U. S. Sanitary Commission. Dwight Johnson chairman of gentlemen's executive committee. Mrs. J. S. T. Stranahan, chairman of ladies' executive committee Feb. 22, 1864." Copyright by E. S. Mills in 1864. Minor soiling with two abrasions near the right center and some margin tears, else VG. This besides the second we offer here is the first we have seen of this print.
