Relics collected by Thomas B. Jobe who on 4/15/1864 he mustered into "D" Co. OH 8th Cavalry. With only a few months left in the war, some 40 members of Jobe’s Cavalry met up with Confederate General Thomas Rosser and they ended up in prison in Richmond, Va. For Jobe, prison only lasted one month before he was released. Offered are three relics that Jobe kept after the war. In Richmond he kept a piece of wood from Libby Prison and he kept two pieces of wood that his friend Howard Adams obtained at Andersonville Prison. Mounted on 2 ½ x 5 inch card with very neat printing providing the provenance of these three relics. plus, ... In addition, Jobe’s discharge issued at Camp Chase, Ohio in June 1865 is present ... plus, A certificate from the Adjutant General’s Office of Ohio certifying Jobe’s service record and that, “He was reported absent in prison since Jany 11th, 1865. Mustered out with detachment at Camp Chase, Ohio June 19th, 1865.” ... plus, newspaper article from Xenia, Ohio in 1909 reprinting a poem written by Jobe DESCRIBING THEIR CAPTURE BY GENERAL ROSSER AND THEIR TREK TO LIBBY PRISON!
