A good war-date New York lady's patriotic letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by a certain "Mary", New York Mills, Aug. 31, 1864 concerning the plan Democratic convention at Chicago, in part: "…I have the blues tonight thinking of the Convention in Chicago. I will not say much for I know you think I am prejudicial and not very well filled to judge for myself…I cannot think of the leading men there as anything patriotic or noble, but [they are] willing to sacrifice country, honor and all for party. Upon what terms would the rebels accept peace. Honorable ones I think not as to us…but my fretting will do no good. I must take things as they come. If I were a man now I could do something…do not say I am a haughty girl for I do not mean to be…much love from Mary ooo." The original stamped transmittal cover is included. VG
