MacARTHUR, Douglas (1880-1964) Presidential candidate 1952, five-star General and Supreme Commander Allied Powers, accepted surrender of Japanese September 2, 1945, relieved of duties as Commander in Chief of the United Nations Command in Korea by President Truman, April, 1951. Signed First Day Cover “Douglas MacArthur,” on color printed envelope titled “The Bombing of Tokyo” with a CDS “U.S. Navy Mar 10, 1945, TOKYO BURNS”. Accompanying is a typed letter from one collector to another collector, April 13, 1947. In part, “So here is a cover you may be able to use. I hope so. It was canceled on the USS New Jersey and as you can see is autographed by Gen. Douglas MacArthur.....” VG.
