A scarce signed document about the death of a 1898 Spanish American War Nurse, Daisy Smythe. Items referencing Spanish American War Nurses are no doubt very scarce if not rare. The document indicates Daisy Smythe was a nurse at the Manila Army Hospital in the Philippines. Daisy was a member of the Stockton Camp No. 4, Department of California of the United Spanish War Veterans and was apparently very well liked and respected as the document is signed by eleven (11) Spanish American War Veteran Committee Members from the Stockton Camp including the Camp Commodore, the Adjutant, etc., etc. The top of the document has the United Spanish War Veterans medal symbol and states in part "COMMODORE STOCKTON CAMP, NO. 4, DEPARTMENT OF CALIFORNIA, UNITED SPANISH WAR VETERANS, WHEREAS, ALMIGHTY GOD, IN HIS INFINITE WISDOM HAS CALLED FROM THIS EARTH OUR BELOVED COMRADE, DAISY SMYTHE NURSE, HOSPITAL MANILA, P. I., LIFE MEMBER OF THE CAMP, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THIS CAMP EXTENDS TO THE BEREAVED RELATIVES ITS HEARTFELT SYMPATHY IN THEIR HOUR OF SORROW AND BE IT FURTHER, RESOLVED, THAT THE CHARTER OF THIS CAMP BE DRAPED FOR THE PERIOD OF THIRTY DAYS AND BE IT FURTHER, RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THESE RESOLUTIONS BE SPREAD UPON THE MINUTES OF THIS CAMP, A COPY SENT TO THE RELATIVES OF THE DECEASED AND ONE TO THE OFFICIOAL JOURNAL FOR PUBLICATION.". The document is signed in ink and is 9 x 11 inches in size and is folded once and is in very nice condition. The buyer pays postage. Payment by check, money order, or PayPal is OK.
