Colored Lithograph, with legend “SAN FRANCISCO, 1852,” 18-1/4” x 12-1/2”, New York, 1852, with 13 identified keys. A delighful early view of Gold Rush-era San Francisco, looking over the city from the west towards Yerba Buena Island. The view depicts a bustling and growing boom town, and was intended for Henry Bill's publication of Samuel Maunder's THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD (1854). The lower margin lists thirteen numbered locations found in the image: North Bay, Contra Costa, Yerba Buena island, California Exchange, Plaza, Leonards Warehouse, Rincon Point, Market Street Pier, California Street, Central Wharf, Catholic Church, Marine Telegraph, Anjill Island.
