Campaign pamphlet, "The Fearful Issue To Be Decided In November Next! Shall The CONSTITUTION and THE UNION STAND or FALL ?," 24pp., attractive variable type on cover, 5" x 8-1/2," disbound, minor pin holes, very good. A pro-Buchanan campaign piece, it attacks Fremont by association with the abolitionists, Garrison, Chase, Beecher, et al., claiming Fremont advocates dissolution of the Union while Buchanan advocates "One Country! One Union! One Constitution! and One Destiny!" The newly formed Republican party, with Fremont as the nominee, vigorously crusaded against the Slave Power. The Democrats nominated Buchanan and warned that the Republicans were extremists whose victory would lead to civil war. Buchanan won the election, while Fremont got only 600 votes in the Southern states.
