A solid attack on the presidency of Andrew Johnson, whose policies would have destroyed the moral and political achievements of the War and whose success depended on the enfranchisement of the former Confederates. The piece urges the election of a veto proof Republican Congress in the fall elections, in order to assure the triumph of the second American Revolution. Johnson had vetoed a number of congressional bills including the first Freedmen's Bureau Bill of 1866, the Civil Rights Bill of 1866, and several reconstruction bills. This piece represents the political fever that would lead to Johnson's impeachment.
