Hayes, given by the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, includes: “MILITARY ORDER OF THE LOYAL LEGION OF THE UNITED STATES. Headquarters Commandery of the State of Wisconsin “IN MEMORIAM. Brevet Major General Rutherford B. Hayes, U.S.V. Commander in Cheif. Died at Fremont, Ohio, January 17, 1893,” 4pp. octavo, with black mourning borders, it reads in small part: “...Gen. Hayes, as a professional man, was high-minded and honorable. As a soldier he was brave and thoroughly devoted to his country’s service. As a public official no man, however distinguished, ever left a cleaner record behind him. As a citizen no one has been more public spirited or a better example to this place-seeking, gold-hunting age...” Fine condition....plus; “Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States In Memoriam Companion Rutherford Birchard Hayes” 10pp. octavo, with nice image of Hayes and lengthy tribute signed in type by William McKinley. Fine condition....plus; “Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States Commandery of the State of Ohio. Tributes to the Memory of Rutherford Birchard Hayes.” 19pp. octavo, with great recap of his military and political career, and some very detailed observations by his comrades. Fine condition.
