Book, “THE LIFE OF AFRICANER, A NAMACQUA CHIEF, OF SOUTH AFRICA.” [bound with:] “THE ORPHAN.” Philadelphia: American Sunday School Union, [ca. 1840]. 35pp. including frontispiece; 16pp. Contemporary quarter cloth and marbled boards, spine stamped in blind. Extremities somewhat worn. Contemporary notations to endpapers. Moderately foxed. A tale of Christian conversion in Africa, and of the works of Christian missionaries among Africans. The frontispiece depicts a meeting between Africaner and another African chief. Both of them have been Christianized, though one is dressed in European garb and the other in African clothing.
