13-1/2” x 13-3/4”, framed to overall 1” x 18”. A rare $50 Confederate bond, a ten year note payable at 8% interest, with sixteen coupons remaining. The earliest bonds issued by the Confederacy emanated from Montgomery, the first capital of the Confederate States, serving as such from February 4 to May 29, 1861. The document itself was printed in New Orleans, but issued at Montgomery by the Confederate Treasury during the last month before the Confederate capital moved to Richmond.
