A rare 19th century Southern regimental history written by anonymous author Private Royal Figg, entitled: "Where Men Only Dare To Go or the STORY OF A BOY COMPANY." Figg's book chronicles his service in Parker's Virginia Battery and in fact this book acts as the unit's first regimental history being, 263 pp. 8vo., published by Whittet & Shepperson, Richmond, Va., 1885, in green cloth binding the embossed gold lettering on the cover and spine. On the title page Figg identifies himself only as "An Ex-Boy." He references himself through this first person narrative as "Gunner Number Three" and begins with the organization of the battery by Richmond based doctor William Wallace Parker. He then records his entire experience without eh battery from its March 1862 inception until the end of the war. He gives many glowing accounts of the unit's role at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and, of course, the siege of Petersburg. A rare opportunity to acquire a must have for the Confederate collector. In great condition with minimal and expected wear where the only defect is the detached detached frontise page which can be easily restored! Overall VG.
