Finely printed, ca. 1861 Col. Elmer Ellsworth memorial lithograph (9 1/2" x 13 1/2" sight) published by James Magee, Philadelphia, entitled: "COL. ELMER E. ELLSWORTH of the Fire Zouaves." The print shows the fallen colonel dressed in the uniform he was killed in and defiantly holding a sword. A printed memorial poem by a certain G. Gumpert along the bottom, reads, in part: "When he saw Treason's proud banner waving…his hands tore it asunder. By a coward assassin he fell. Twas Ellsworth, the gallant Zouave…who tore down the banner of treason, and perished our Union to save…noble warrior…sleep sweetly in the silent grave, for millions praise thy name…it adds but to thy name."
