A West Point Cadet letter written and signed by George Meade (Jr.) who on 11/20/1862 he mustered into "C" Co. PA 6th Cavalry and was mustered out on 9/1/1866. The 4pp. letter is datelined West Point May 5th (with original cover). In this letter, George is writing his friend John W. Chester. George gives some interesting information about their graduating class; “There is but 38 men left in my class out of 87. That is rather a falling off for one year.” the driving force behind that decline was the large number of men who resigned to join the Confederacy.
