War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Wallace McGrath, Co. K, 15th Ohio Vols., Camp Wood, [Munfordsville, Kentucky], Feb. 3, 1862, in part: "…I think that you and Julia are trying to scare me by telling me that there is a cousin of hers down here in the Secesh army who has picked me out and [is] going to send me to the Devil with a bullet…two can play that game…maybe the gent might find one going through his brain…I wish you would not say anything about me sending you my picture from camp…I have no chance of getting one taken but…there are place here although they don't take the best pictures in the world…the remains of the rebel General Zollicoffer and a Lieut. of his staff passed through our Division last Saturday and were escorted to the rebel lines by Genl. [Robert W.] Johnson and staff and other officers and a company of cavalry. They took dinner with Genl. Hindman of the Rebels…if it would only dry a little our brigade would go as far Horse Cave which is about 6 miles further down the railroad. If we do there will…be some fighting done which the boys are just aching for…Wall. McGrath." The original (damaged) stamped transmittal cover is included. VG
