War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Wallace McGrath, Co. K, 15th Ohio Vols., "Camp near Bowling Green, KY, Feb. 26, 1862," in part: "…we have been on the march for nearly two weeks and haven't got but 40 miles from where we started…we went back from Camp Wood to Louisville…we were destined for the mouth of Salt river on the Ohio river…we were to take boats and go around to the Cumberland river…then cut across the country and get in the rear of Bowling Green but when we got 17 miles from Camp Wood we heard that Bowling Green had been evacuated by the rebels…[we] are now on our way to Nashville which has also been evacuated…some of our troops are there…we will go on there…as soon as we can cross Barren river…at Bowling Green…I think there will be another fight at Memphis…and then the war wont last long…Wallace McGrath."
