A pair of Union soldier’s letters written by John P. McVean who on 9/7/1861 he mustered into "D" Co. NY 49th Infantry; ee-enlisted on 12/25/1863, and was Killed on 5/5/1864 at Wilderness, VA. The first letter is datelined Camp near Fredericksburg, Va. December 30th, 1862. This of course was just after the battle of Fredericksburg. The second letter is datelined Camp near Falmouth, Va. May 21st, 1863.
