War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Robert Henry Greenfield, Co. I, 130th New York Vols., Fredrick City, Md., July 15, 1863, to his wife, in part: "…we came from Yorktown to Washington and from there [to] here. We expect to move forward tomorrow. We are about one days march from the Rebel army in Pennsylvania. We expect to see some fighting in a few days. 136th Regt. is only twelve miles from us. The 104 has been badly cut to pieces. They are not far from us. We will…see some of them in a few days…we are encamped in a wheat field…I can hear the distant cannon's roar towards the scene of action. We passed a train loaded with Rebel prisoners yesterday when we was coming down here. It has rained for the past week…Robert H. Greenfield." VG
