War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 4to., written, on rare printed Co. I, 130th New York roster stationery, by Pvt. Robert Henry Greenfield, Co. I, 130th New York Vols., Warrenton, Va., July 29, 1863, to his wife, in part: "…we are doing provost duty in Warrenton City. Our quarters are in the court house. It is a fine place here but there is no Union folks here. That is citizens. They are all secesh, the bluest kind…I was over in the six army Corps yesterday to see some of the recruits…of the old 33rd N. Y. S. V…I did not see Billy Greenwood [Pvt. Daniel William Greenwood, Co. I, 7th Wisconsin (Iron Brigade), WIA July 1, 1863] for he got wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg. He is in Philadelphia in the hospital. Mite [Pvt. Milon Parker, Co. I, 1st New York Dragoons, DOD Washington 9/10/64 buried Arlington National Cemetery grave 13-8344] is driving teams yet…our kernel has gone to Washington…the kernel has gone to see about getting us in a cavalry Regt…I suppose some of the men up there are getting scared about the draft…I hope they will draft Myron Patterson away from that girl that you wrote to me about. I would like to see him carry a knapsack on his back about fifty miles…direct to Washington…R. H. Greenfield." VG
