I, 1st New York Dragoons, "Camp on the South Side Railroad, Va.," Apr. 14, 1865, to his wife, in part: "…I suppose that you have heard of the surrender of Lee's army…Richmond is our [?] more and Sheridan's Cavalry is what caused them to evacuate it. We got in their rear and cut their communications off from the South…I saw the Rebel army and all of their wagon trains and artillery. We had a pretty sharp fight with them they day they surrendered. The shell flew in every direction…tell Moses to keep his fast horse till I get home. I want to see how they drive. I have got a trotting horse…you spoke of the boys clothing. If they had belonged to our company. I could of sent them home with Mite's [Pvt. Milon Parker, Co.
