War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written, on patriotic stationery, by Pvt. William P. Roberts, Co. G, 68th Indiana Vols., [DOD 11/02/62], Louisville, [KY], Aug. 21, 1862, in part: "…I am in one of the best messes in camp…I am in for it now until the war is over or 3 years…I am going to fite for my country…we had marching orders at Indianapolis…we drawer our uniform before we left there…got in Kentucky the same evening. We are going to Lexington, Ky…we hant drawer our arms…[John Hunt] Morgan is clost to where we are going but we hant afrad of him. There i[s] plenty of negrows here. The camp is full of women. I expect I will run off with some of them. If you want a darky I will press one in for you…W. P. Roberts…Louisville, Key., 68 Reg. Ind. Vols. Company G, Cap. L. V. C. Lynn. To follow of the Reg."
