A Union soldier’s letter written and signed by James H. Howell, who on 12/11/1861 he mustered into "C" Co. IA 16th Infantry and was Killed on 4/6/1862 at Shiloh, TN. The 4pp letter is on patriotic stationary with a full length flag, datelined Camp McClellan, March 7, 1862. In part, “I do not expect to return until the secession is among the things that was ... several of the killed from Fort Donaldson arrived on the cars today and are to be buried tomorrow ... “ Howell would be killed the following month.
