A great war-date manuscript, 3pp. 8vo., Northern patriotic poem entitled: "Just Before the Battle Mother" penned by Pvt. Joseph T. Wade, Co. G, 42nd Wisc. Vols., "Camp Randall, Madison, Wis., Feb. 17, 1864, on a rare (the first we have encountered in the marketplace) pre-printed "Company A, 42d Reg't. Wis. Vols." muster roll letter sheet, reading, in small part: "Just before the battle mother I am thinking most of you while upon the field we are watching with the enemy in view. Comrades brave are round me lying filled with thoughts of home…they no that in the morning some will sleep beneath the sod…hark I hear the bugle sounding tis the signal for the fight…hear the battle cry of freedom…". VG with light soiling
