War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Edward H. Vidlear, Co. G, 114th New York Vols., [WIA Opequon, Va., 9/19/64], Franklin, La., Mar. 10, 1864, in part: "…it is quite lively times here. All are expecting to march. We have taken down our tents and sent them to New Orleans, packed up our extra clothing and sent it there also…we are going up the Teche again. I would rather go whare I have not been…new troops are coming ere most every day some from the Army of the Potomac. The 8th Vt have reenlisted and gone home on furlough also the 6th Mass. and 21st Ind…you want to know what I think about the war. I think it is fast dragging to a close and that by next fall the rebellion will be about died out…E. H. Vidlear." Minor spotting and stains, else VG
