War-date Union officer's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Lt. William M. Thurston, Battery F (Ricketts), 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, "Head Qrs. Baty F, 1st Pa. Arty," Harrisburg, June 2, 1865, in part: "…I cannot tell how soon we will be mustered out…I have bought my horse…and will try and bring her home. She will make a good buggy horse…the camp has been full all day. We had a good reception when we passed throughout the city. I with many others received a nice bouquet. All concerned was satisfied with the demonstrations. Cheer after cheer came from the ranks as they marched through all glad that they were so near home. There are in all about ten thousand men…and more coming which will make camp return quite lively. Our camp lies west of Camp Curtin…W. H. Thurston, 1st Lt., Baty F, 1st Pa. Arty…". VG
