“SHERIDAN! CAVALRY SHERIDAN!” 5” x 8,” Washington, G.P. Hardwick, 1864, VG. A rather scarce Civil War song sheet, celebrating Gen. Philip Sheridan's recent victories in Maryland. These victories were only the latest in a string of successes that accompanied Sheridan's meteoric rise in rank. Specifically, this song commemorates the victories of Sheridan's 6th and 19th corps over Jubal Early's forces in the Shenandoah campaign. The lyrics, by George P. Hardwick (ironically to the tune of "My Normandy; or, My Maryland", a Southern rallying cry) specifically mention the victory over Early, as well as George Custer's role in the campaign.
