Here is a beautiful 2 page letter of thanks from Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt who prosecuted the Lincoln conspirators. This grouping is from the famous Floyd Risvold Collection and also includes a rare printed pamphlet entitled, “Vindication of Judge Advocate General Holt, from the Foul Slanders of Traitors, their Aiders, Abettors, and Sympathizers, Acting in the Interest of Jefferson Davis.” The booklet is 15 pages with testimonies of various important legal persons including E. M. Stanton, Secretary of War. It was published in 1866. Judge Holt is writing a Colonel Paitt for his kind support. The lot includes a photograph of Col. Paitt, a steal engraving of Joseph Holt and extensive newspaper article about Holt.
