"American statesmen (1764-1836) as an American jurist and statesman. He was an influential figure in the drafting of the Louisiana Civil Code of 1825, a civil code based largely on the Napoleonic Code. He represented both New York, and later Louisiana in Congress and he served as the U.S. Secretary of State, under Andrew Jackson, from 1831 to 1833. Partly-printed Document Signed "Edw. Livingston," as Secretary of State, one page, 11.5 x 15.5, September 29, 1831, being an official passport issued to George Halliburton, providing instructions to “permit safely and freely to pass, George Halliburton, a citizen of the United States.” Filled out along the left side with his physical description. Signed at the conclusion by Livingston as secretary of state. In very good condition, with show-through from stamps and endorsements to reverse, and a mounting strip left edge.
