A rare pre-war Southern (?) 1/6th plate ruby-red ambrotype of a well dressed Black gentleman seated next to a rather unhappy looking White women who is equally finely attired. The photographer has finely tinted in gold the woman's brooch and the man's watch chain. Housed in its original brown gutta percha case with a mother and daughter design on the lid.
