VETCH, Samuel (1668-1732) British soldier and colonial administrator. Settled in Albany, New York in 1699, and became a trader with the Indians. Author of a plan to capture French Canada, he was empowered in 1709 by the British government to raise troops for the attack. He was Adjt. Gen. of the expedition that completed the attack and capture of Port Royal, Nova Scotia, and became military governor of that place.Manuscript Document Signed, one page with docketing, quarto, April 22, 1703, New York. A very early English language "bill of balance" concerning cargo aboard the sloop "Mary" in New York harbor. Signed and sealed with red wax by Samuel Vetch, sloop's owner, and Samuel Bounds, sloop's master. Witnessed and signed by Matthew Ling and Jason Ennott. Light soiling, else Fine condition.
